Richard Tonry was charged with conspiracy to engage in interstate
transportation in aid of a racketeering enterprise, and two counts of
engaging in interstate transportation in violation of the federal rack-
eteering statute. e unlawf ul activity that Tonry was accused of impli-
cated the State of Louisiana’s commercial bribery laws.
e relevant Louisiana statute denes commercia l bribery as the giv-
ing or oering to give anyth ing of value “to any private agent, employee,
or duciary, without the knowledge and consent of the principal or
employer” with the intent to inuence the bribe recipient’s actions as
they relate to the aai rs of his employer or principal.
