As was true in the last edition, this book is the product of a team effort and
we thank the many people who made it possible. We start with each of the
authors in this edition and those who contributed to the rst edition but were
not involved in the book. Their hard work and generous contribution of their
time and expertise made this book possible.
This edition benetted substantially from a complete independent editorial
review by Ridgely Jackson, an associate with Laurie & Brennan LLP, whose
experience as an editor prior to law school made her especially well quali-
ed for this task. The editors are very grateful for her important contribution
to this book. We also extend our thanks to the ABA Forum on Construction
Law for its continued strong support of this project. David Scotti, chair of the
Publications Committee, provided invaluable, unwavering support as the book
progressed. Special thanks also go to recent Forum chairs Wendy Venoit and
Thomas Rosenberg for their support of the book. Milca Feliciano and Belinda
Lambert made important contributions through their support in connection
with the preparation of the manuscript and made the editors’ job much easier.
We want to extend special thanks to our co-editor on the rst edition, William
Allensworth. William’s input in the rst edition is an invaluable contribution
to the second. We also want to acknowledge the contribution of the late Holt
Gwyn, the author of the chapter on the economic loss rule in the rst edition.
Holt’s work has been revised and updated in this edition, but his voice in the
chapter remains strong.
Finally, we thank ABA Publishing and our editor, Sarah Forbes Orwig, and
Courtney Coffman, production manager for the book at Lachina, for their con-
tributions to the publications process.
