§8.6 PROCESS FOR ADOPTING AREA ZONING

Prior to adoption of the Growth Management Act, there were very few procedural constraints on a local government's adoption of area zoning regulations. Enactment of such laws was merely subject to the minimal notice and hearing procedures that generally apply to legislative actions and to the limited mandates set forth in statutory enabling acts.

The GMA has imposed more rigorous procedural requirements on jurisdictions that plan under the Act.
