Pointer # 94
Creating a Comfortable O ce
You will spend many hours in your
o ce. Make it a comfortable place
to be. Hang pictures, arrange photos,
bring a plant, and surround yourself
with items that motivate you. Have a
drawer  lled with drug store sundries
and healthy snacks, so you do not lack
items you might need or be tempted to
raid the lunchroom refrigerator.
Pointer # 95
Tailoring Your Clothes to the
Dress Code
In today’s world, there are many  rms
that have adopted the “business casual”
dress code. In every  rm, or locale,
this might have a di erent de nition.
Be sure to read the policy and follow
it. But beyond following it, remember
that you represent your  rm, so do
observe how others dress and make
wise choices about your attire.
Pointer # 96
Using O ce Services for
Personal Matters
Remember the book h e Firm? An
employer is responsible for copying
and transmitting materials related to
client matters, not your personal ones.
If you need to use the  rm’s resources,
be sure its policies allow you to do so.
If you are to reimburse the  rm for the
cost, be sure to do it on a timely basis.
Pointer # 97
Utilizing a Calendaring System
You can keep an appointment book
with you, but keeping others up-to-
date on your schedule might be best
accomplished through a computerized
system. Most systems include “to-do
lists” and “tasks.”  ese features will
help keep you organized. A built-in
“tickler system” will remind you of
important meetings. Learn what tools
your  rm has or  nd one that works
for you and those with whom you
work most closely.
