II. POINTERS FOR USING
TECHNOLOGY WISELY
Pointer # 15
Maximizing Your Telephone
System
Your  rm might have the type of phone
that requires a mechanical degree to
use. With complex voicemail systems
and multiple features, it is imperative
that you learn how to operate your
phone within the  rst week. Voicemail
systems can be especially valuable
when calling from outside the o ce,
because you can connect with a variety
of people without hanging up. And
be sure to answer your own phone;
accessibility is important to colleagues
and clients.
Pointer # 16
Utilizing O ce Equipment
Know how to use other common
pieces of o ce technology, such as
the conference phone, fax machine,
printers and copiers. If you are
working late or on a weekend, you
cannot always call someone for
instructions on how to use them, or to
x a glitch or paper jam.
Pointer # 17
Receiving So ware Training
Your  rm uses a variety of so ware
systems to control documents, input
time, track deadlines, etc. Learn
each of the systems so that you can
be e cient and productive. Working
closely with the person responsible
for technology training will pay o
in more ways than just learning the
systems. O en the trainers are better
and faster at responding to problems
than a help desk person.
