Sample Writ to Summon Special Venire

WRIT TO SUMMON SPECIAL VENIRE

TO THE SHERIFF OF (name of county) COUNTY—GREETINGS:

YOU ARE HEREBY COMMANDED TO SUMMON by mail (number of persons to be summoned) persons to appear before the (designation of court) on (day/date/year) at ___:___ a.m./p.m. from which the jury for the trial of the above numbered and entitled cause of action is to be selected. The Sheriff is cautioned and directed to summon such persons as have legal qualifications to serve on juries as per law and the court’s instructions as to those qualifications. Further, those jurors who are summoned should be of good character; they can read and write, and such as are not prejudiced against the Defendant or biased in his favor, if you know of such bias or prejudice. This court has previously granted the Defendant’s request for a special venire in this cause of action and a list of said summoned special venire shall be furnished to the Defendant and his counsel as provided by law.

HEREIN FAIL NOT, but of this writ make due return as the law directs.
