FOREWORD
The American Bar Association (ABA) S ection of Antitrust Law is
pleased to publish Competition as Public Policy, a collection of papers,
speeches, and panel discussions presented at the May 13 14, 2009
Antitrust Symposium: Competition as Public Policy in Jackson Hole,
WY. I would like to express my gratitude to Jim Wilson, Chair of the
Section of Antitrust Law from 20082009, for having the foresight to
hold the Symposium at such a critical time in our nation‘s and our
world‘s economy.
I am grateful to Deborah Platt Majoras and John Shenefield for
chairing the ABA Task Force that organized such a superb Symposium.
I would also like to acknowledge all the members of the ABA Task
Force who contributed to the Symposium, including Melanie Aitken,
Dennis Carlton, Edward Cavanagh, Jonathan Jacobson, Barry Nigro,
Maureen Ohlhausen, Robert Pratt, Robert Schlossberg, Joseph Simons
and Joshua Soven.
Finally, I would like to thank Barry Nigro, Maureen Ohlhausen, and
Chris Compton for all their hard work in compiling and editing this
book. I am also indebted to the authors and panelists for their thought-
provoking and invaluable contributions on such important issues.
