§26.8 COMPUTATION OF TIME

This section reviews RAP provisions governing computation of time, generally and for filing and service of motions and other papers.

(1) Generally

RAP 18.6 contains general provisions for the computation of time. RAP 18.6(a) states the familiar practice of excluding the first day and including the last, unless the last day is a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday. Cf. CR 6. When the period of time prescribed is less than seven days, intermediate Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays are excluded in the computation.

RCW 2.28.100 provides that courts are not open on legal holidays, except for specified limited purposes. Legal holidays are set forth in RCW 1.16.050. GR 2 provides that if a legal holiday falls on Saturday, all courts of the state shall be closed...
