The Center for Urban Research (CUR) works with faculty and graduate students to organize

basic research on the critical issues facing New York and other large cities in the United

States and abroad. It promotes applied research and information dissemination with public

agencies, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and other partners, and holds forums and

workshops on urban research undertaken at the Graduate Center and the City University.

Research focuses on how broad forces like the global economy and immigration are reshap-

ing work, politics, and neighborhood life in large metropolitan areas.

Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development (the Poverty

Center)

The Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development (the Poverty Center) works to

inform public policy and program planning through data and analysis to address urban pov-

erty, its causes, and its impact on communities and their residents. The center was founded

in 1988, and its mission has broadened to encompass poverty through study of its human,

social, and economic implications as experienced by the family and the community.
