Raises average 3% in 2016
For six consecutive years, Board & Adminis-
trator readers reported receiving a 4% raise, on
average. This year, that figure dropped to 3%. The
median raise last year was also 3%.
For 2017, B&A readers predict a 3% raise.
The chart shows the steadily upward progres-
sion in nonprofit executive pay since 2000. Aver-
age pay has increased by nearly $50,000 over
that time. Average salary has topped $100,000
since 2008.
Value of fringe benets nears $20,000
When money is tight (like it always is in the
nonprofit sector), it’s good to pause and consider
your total compensation.
With that in mind, here is some good news
about total CEO compensation for Board & Ad-
ministrator readers. The value of the average fringe
benefits package reported last year was $19,431.
Benefits for nonprofit executives typically in-
clude their health insurance, retirement plans,
disability insurance, vehicle, telephone and com-
puter allowances, and professional development.
These fringe benefits add a great deal to the
CEO’s total compensation package. The average
value of this year’s benefits package ($19,431) rep-
resents about 15% of the total compensation pie
reported in 2016: $138,562.
