NYC ban on height, weight bias may catch on.

As New York City goes, so goes the nation? A just-enacted New York City law barring employers from discriminating on the basis of height and weight could become a model for other jurisdictions.

The law--known as Intro. 209-A--goes into effect Nov. 22. It makes it illegal for New York City employers to discriminate based on an applicant's or employee's height or weight. Employers must also protect employees from height and weight harassment.

Advice: If you have employees who work in New York City, revise your policies to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on height and weight.
