Apparently worried about the opioid addiction crisis, an Alabama company created a policy in 2016 prohibiting employees' use of prescription medications, including specific pain relievers, during both work and off-duty hours.

Employees were told they had to stop taking their prescribed medication for disabling conditions or else they'd lose their jobs. Some switched to less effective medication, while others quit.
