Fundamentals of Franchising has been the Forum on Franchising’s best-selling mono-
graph. It is the textbook for the highly praised, annual introductory franchise course
of the same name that the Forum has offered at its annual meeting since 1987.
Fundamentals of Franchising is a textbook for many law school classes and has
been the initial, comprehensive introduction to franchising for many of the Forum’s
members, including myself. This new edition will continue a tradition of well-earned
success.
The two editors, Rupert Barkoff and Andy Selden, conceived the original edi-
tion and the program. Both Rupert and Andy are former chairs of the Forum who,
although perhaps a little longer in the tooth than in 1987, have remained consistent,
active contributors to and supporters of the organization. They recognized that Fun-
damentals of Franchising, although still in demand, needed updating and were the
driving force behind this new edition. Its high quality represents their continued
commitment as educators and leaders in the field.
A monograph like this, however, is truly a team commitment that could not
exist without the hard work of the authors, the people who helped them, the ABA
professional staff, and the members of the Publications Committee of the Forum on
Franchising. On behalf of the Forum, I would like to join Rupert and Andy in recog-
nizing and thanking those people as well.
Thank you all!
