About the Editors
RUPERT M. BARKOFF is a member of the law firm of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP
of Atlanta, Georgia, and specializes in the practice of franchise law. A native of New
Orleans, Louisiana, he received his B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in
1970, graduating with high distinction. He received his J.D. degree, graduating ma-
gna cum laude in 1973, from the University of Michigan Law School where he was
a member of the Order of the Coif and articles editor of the Michigan Law Review.
Mr. Barkoff served as chair of the American Bar Association Forum on Fran-
chising from 1989 to 1992, and as its immediate past chair from 1992 to 1995. He
joined the Forum’s Governing Committee in 1986 and before that served as an asso-
ciate editor of the Forum’s Franchise Law Journal. He is the co-editor of the ABA
Franchise Law Bibliography (first edition), and Fundamentals of Franchising (first
edition). Mr. Barkoff has been an active member of the Franchising Committee of
the ABA Section of Antitrust Law and was chair of the Franchising Subcommittee
of the ABA Business Section’s Small Business Committee, and presently serves as a
member of the Industry Advisory Committee to the North American Securities Ad-
ministrators Association’s Franchise and Business Opportunities Project Group. He
is a member of the editorial boards of Franchise Update and LJN’s Franchising
Business & Law Alert, and a columnist for the New York Law Journal, and has testi-
fied twice before Congressional committees. He has written over 100 articles on
franchise law and is recognized as one of the country’s leading franchise attorneys
by The Best Lawyers in America and is listed in the International Who’s Who of
Franchise Lawyers.
ANDREW C. SELDEN is a shareholder of Briggs and Morgan, P.A., of Minneapo-
lis, Minnesota. Mr. Selden’s law practice involves representation of regional, na-
tional and international franchisors, national and global franchisee associations, and
franchise system purchasing cooperatives. He was chair of the American Bar
Association’s Forum on Franchising, from 1985 to 1989, editor of the Franchise
Law Journal 1983-84, and a member of the Forum’s Governing Committee from
1983 to 1989. Mr. Selden was the reporter for the Uniform Franchise and Business
Opportunities Act promulgated by the National Conference of Commissioners on
Uniform State Laws, and is a member and former chairman (1983-87) of the Indus-
try Advisory Committee to the North American Securities Administrators Associa-
tion Franchise and Business Opportunities Project Group.
