§ 2.5 Technical Requirements

The Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure set out technical requirements of all court filings as to paper size, quality, format, and spacing. All filings must be prepared on 8½" x 11" paper, and must be printed in black type, and must conform to the format and spacing requirements of C.R.C.P. 10(d).176 The text must be printed on one side only (except for e-filed documents), and must have margins of 1 ½ inches at the top of the page and one inch at the left, right, and bottom of the page. A left-justified margin must be used on all pages except for the area of the caption. The font must be nothing smaller than 12-point font.177 C.R.C.P. 10(d) also sets out the particular requirements as to the case caption format and spacing for various types of pleadings, and this rule should be carefully consulted for compliance before documents are filed. All paper filings must be on recycled white paper.178
