§ 2.4 Procedures in Small Claims Court

The rules for small claims courts are set out in Chapter 26 of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules 501 through 521, and the requisite forms are found in the Appendix to that chapter. Plaintiffs initiating actions in small claims court are not allowed to be represented by attorneys.173 However, if the defendant notifies the court that he or she will be represented by an attorney, the plaintiff will also have the right to be represented by an attorney.174 The summons and complaint forms provided in the Appendix to Chapter 26 must be used when initiating an action in small claims court.175
