Student ambassador program.

The Student Ambassador Program was created in 2001 to explain the advantages of majoring in accounting and a career in the CPA profession to college students. Since the program's inception, thousands of students have been exposed to the benefits of a career in the accounting profession and better understand the role of CPAs in the business world.

The ambassador program is based on peer-to-peer networking and counseling. The ambassadors, who are already accounting majors, talk with other students throughout the academic year about what it's like to major in accounting and their future career plans as CPAs.

"I really feel that I have made a big impact," said Andy Valerius, student ambassador at Wright State University, Dayton. "It's hard to believe how many students I've made contact with over the past year. I know I can't turn everyone into an accountant, but I think I've done a great job of finding those that should be and giving them the help and information they need to make that decision."

Throughout the academic year, ambassadors plan activities and events to reach undecided students and dispel misconceptions and negative stereotypes. They make classroom presentations and visit dormitories trying to interest undecided and non-accounting business majors in pursuing a career in accounting.
