ONE OF THE FUNNIEST STORIES I have ever heard about humility is attributed to Don Shula, the Hall of Fame football coach. As the story goes, while on vacation in a remote area in New Hampshire, Shula took his family to an old-fashioned single-screen movie theater. As they walked in, the small group seated near the front stood and applauded for a few seconds.

"I can't even go to a small town in New Hampshire without being recognized," Shula whispered to his wife.

After the movie, he began talking to one of the locals as they exited the theater. Shula decided to ask him about the ovation. "When I walked in, you all gave me a standing ovation," he said. "I was surprised you recognized me."

"Buddy, I don't know who you are," the man said. "I just know there were only eight people in the theater and they don't start...
