the plaintiff had not seemed to argue that the alleged
conduct was connected to her race. She also said that
the 2013 profanity appeared to be an offhand isolated
incident that wouldn’t alter the terms and conditions
of employment. Finally, she noted that the plaintiff
hadn’t disputed that she was able to complete all work
assigned to her.

Report says better partnerships
needed for progress on SDGs
A new report from Philanthropy University, the
Conrad Hilton Foundation and GSVlabs lays out a
roadmap for strengthening multistakeholder partner-
ships with the goal of advancing the United Nations’
Sustainable Development Goals.
The report puts forth numerous calls to action
to inspire stronger multistakeholder partnerships,
which can be boiled down to the following core
commitments:
Recognize power. Stakeholders should recognize
the power communities hold in the form of expertise,
and give communities greater ownership in nding
solutions.
Radically expand networks. Stakeholders should
reject the tendency to partner only within existing
networks, sectors or even personal backgrounds, and
seek out local community expertise.
Make every dollar count. They should unlock
additional capital through cross-sector collaboration
and long-term exible funding commitments.
Move from transparency to accountability. This is
crucial, the report says, because there are few formal
accountability mechanisms of the SDGs and limited
visibility into the allocation and use of public and
private resources.
The report also suggests sector-specific roles
within SDG-focused MSPs: government as builder,
private sector as accelerator, civil society as expert
and philanthropy as facilitator. Critical next steps
are outlined for each sector.

Majority of foundations say racial
equity relevant to mission
Nearly two-thirds of foundations say racial equity
is very relevant to their mission, according to Ex-
ponent Philanthropy’s 2020 Foundation Operations
and Management Report. In total, some 65% of the
foundations report racial equity as “somewhat or very
relevant” to their mission, including about a third of
foundations with few or zero staff.
The report also looked at how racial equity related
to funders’ grantmaking practices. For example, it
found that foundations that rated racial equity as very
relevant to their mission were more likely to prioritize
specic grantmaking practices, such as monitoring
grantees’ accomplishments (95%) and bringing sub-
ject-matter knowledge to the board (87%).
Foundations were also asked about best practices
and policies they have implemented in the past two
years to promote racial equity. The most commonly
reported best practice was employees’ completing a
training or self-assessment on racial equity–related
topics (25%), followed by having a mission statement
that includes an expressed commitment to racial
equity (19%).
The report also explored a variety of topic areas
on the inner workings of lean funders, from how
foundations make grants and prioritize investments
to board and governance structure.
