PROLOGUE
Within these covers 20 IP experts summarize the Chinese IP law, a subject
open to much debate but without doubt a subject that will impact our future,
since China ranks among the top countries in the world for patent filings.
China has made rapid progress over the past 30 years. We, the authors and
editors, have worked tirelessly to produce this book to help you understand
the intellectual property developments in China. Our ultimate hope is that
this summary helps advance commerce and international relations. It was
actually my international law professor at the University of Iowa and my
work on cooperative engineering projects with China in Texas that first
interested me in this fascinating area of law. I look forward to continuing to
follow these developments.
I would like to thank Mr. Bill McCarthy, Mr. Ray Owens, and Mr. Dan
Barbieri, whom I have had the great pleasure of working with over the years.
I would also like to thank all the knowledgeable authors, colleagues, and
my family for supporting this project. Thank you Astrid, Sienna, Carolyn,
Laura, Jolene, and my loving husband Tim Dicey, who brings art and laugh-
ter to the world.
