OSCPA opposes new card check legislation: conflicts continue to surround controversial unionization legislation.

OSCPA's Executive Board voted March 24 to formally oppose the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), highly controversial legislation that was introduced recently in both houses of Congress.

The legislation is more commonly referred to as the "card check bill" as it would essentially eliminate the federally supervised secret ballot process now in place for workers. Another key provision of concern would, after a union is certified, mandate binding arbitration on contract negotiations if agreement is not reached within 120 days, meaning a two-year contract deciding all workplace terms could be put into place by government regulators without any vote by the company or its employees.

In a recent OSCPA survey, 95% of OSCPA members responding opposed the legislation, with 92% believing that the legislation would hurt businesses in the current economy.
