Newberry receiving $1M grant for water tank.

The city of Newberry will receive a $1 million Santee Cooper Municipal Site Readiness Grant to help fund the construction of a 3.5 million-gallon water tank.

The grant is aimed at benefiting specific improvements to city infrastructure, according to a Santee Cooper news release.

The new water tank, with an estimated total cost of $2,651,000, will be owned and maintained by the city's water system. Newberry has also secured a $500,000 grant from the state Rural Infrastructure Authority Fund. The balance of the project will be financed with 2015 revenue bonds, according to the release.
