Nonprot employees report high job satisfaction,
note need for better leadership-staff alignment
Recent research on employee satisfaction and other
human resource–related issues in the nonprot sector
shows that most workers stafng the nation’s charities
are happy with their jobs and organizations. That be-
ing said, there are plenty of areas for improvement,
according to the research, conducted by fundraising
software provider Classy. Nonprot Business Advisor
spoke with Soraya Alexander, senior vice president
of marketing at Classy, about the survey and some
of its key takeaways.
Q: The survey shows a fairly high rate of overall job
satisfaction for nonprot staff. How does this compare
to the private sector?
A: Our survey found that 84% of nonprot pro-
fessionals across departments express satisfaction in
their jobs. This level of job satisfaction is much higher
than the latest poll of American workers as a whole,
with just 51% of employees reporting that they were
satised with their jobs in The Conference Board’s
latest annual survey, conducted in 2018.

New tool helps track
Latinx-oriented funding
Candid and Hispanics in Philanthropy have
launched a new online dashboard, dubbed Latinx-
Funders, that tracks philanthropy’s role in the
Latinx populations across the United States and
its territories over a ve-year period, from 2013–17.
According to Candid—formerly GuideStar—
LatinxFunders will be an ongoing project to help
funders and grantseekers understand how phil-
anthropic resources are being awarded for Latinx
communities, and what gaps may exist that can
help guide funding strategies. With this tool, the
sector can more accurately target resources and
support short- and long-term strategies to build
prosperity for all Latinx, the groups said.
The online dashboard will feature overall fund-
ing trends for the 2013–17 window, broken down
by nine regions based on subdivisions of the four
census geographic regions and U.S. territories.
Funders’ interests and priorities are detailed and
explored from different angles to identify patterns
and changes.
The tool offers Latinx funders the ability to
share data to complete the “funding picture” and
better educate decision-making, the groups said.

As to why this job satisfaction is higher in the
nonprot sector, we don’t necessarily have a deni-
tive reason based on the results, but we do think it
may have something to do with both the alignment
across the sector as well as trends in employment that
have led to people wanting to work for more mission-
driven companies—and what’s more mission-driven
than a nonprot?
For example, we found the majority of survey
