Chairman Emeritus Dick Kennedy passed away on February 14, 2019, in Naples, FL. Dick was founder and the first chair of the ARIAS-US. Board of Directors. He was a former Senior Partner of Werner & Kennedy & General Counsel to American Skandia, Inc. He was a preeminent member of the insurance bar throughout his 45-year career, serving as Chair of the American Bar Associations Tort & Insurance Practice Section, Chair of the New York State Bar Association Insurance Section, President of the U.S. Chapter of the International Association of Insurance Law and member of the Federation of Insurance & Corporate Counsel and International Association of Insurance Counsel. In his honor, the ARIAS-US. Board of Directors has chosen to rename the ARIAS-US. Award, the Dick Kennedy Award.

The award, at the discretion of the ARIAS-US. Board of Directors, is given to an individual who, through his or her own conduct and initiative, has epitomized the objectives of ARIAS-US. by making significant contributions towards the improvement of the arbitration process and by fostering the development of arbitration law and practice as a means of resolving national and international insurance and reinsurance disputes in an efficient, economical and equitable manner.
