Committee
Title: Member of the Program Policy Committee
Responsible to: The board of directors
Qualication: A member of the board of directors in good standing
Objective:
1. To make policy recommendations to the full board in the areas of community relations, quality assurance and
results of service delivery.
2. To initiate the organization’s long-range planning process.
Duties:
a. Reviews the planning, development and evaluation of the services offered by the organization.
b. Reviews community needs assessment data.
c. Reviews the quality assurance process and the results.
d. Assists the committee chair with providing reports to the board.
e. Assists in the development of the annual community relations plan for board approval.
f. Assists in setting goals and objectives for the board’s community relations program.
g. Reviews the organization’s community relations program annually.
h. Assists in the development of policies relating to the service delivery system, and quality assurance, for board
approval.
i. Participates in the annual analysis of the organization’s mission, vision and values statements.
Recruit new board members
at next fundraiser
Executive Director Gene Johnson (Charlotte Hall, Maryland) wasn’t looking for a new board member when he wrote 120
letters to area churches asking if they would be interested in raising money for his organization (a youth and families
nonprot) as an outreach activity.
But his letter-writing campaign led not only to a $15,000 special event, but a quality board member in the form of a
local pastor.
“We hit it off with one of the churches that responded to the letter, and they went on to perform a dinner theater
event at a nice local restaurant for us,” Johnson said. “The event was one of the best fundraisers we have ever
done.”
Five months later, when Johnson met with the pastor of the church that organized the event to update him on how the
money they raised was used, the pastor indicated he was ready to join the board of Johnson’s organization.
