e Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences is a top-ten ranked
school of social work (#9 in U.S. News & World Report, 2012) and the Mandel name is
well known for its commitment to nonprofi t education and research. As home to one of the
first master’s degrees wholly focused on nonprofit management (Master of Nonprofit
Organizations [MNO]), CWRU and the Mandel School have a longstanding commitment
to the vitality of the nonprofi t sector.  e School’s mission is aligned with the work of the
nonprofi t sector with a focus on using education, research and service to promote social
justice and empowerment in communities through practice locally, nationally and interna-
tionally. With a full-time faculty of 38, the Mandel School is an interdisciplinary school
with faculty trained in a range of arenas, such as social work, social welfare, psychology,
public policy, urban planning, sociology, anthropology, and history.  e Mandel School also
offers the Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) degree, a Certificate in
Management & Leadership, as well as a Ph.D. in Social Welfare.
