USAA Federal Savings Bank (assets: $32 billion), San Antonio, Texas, recently launched the first mobile deposit capability for iPhone.

The innovation means that the bank's customers can now use their iPhone to deposit their check anywhere they can get a wireless signal--from their child's soccer field, neighborhood meetings or PTA meetings at school.

"Our members are on-the-go and need to be able to manage their accounts at all times, from any location," says Wayne Peacock, executive vice president of Enterprise Business Operations.

Eligible members can snap a photo of both sides of a signed check with their iPone's built-in camera, and then transmit the image to USAA through the phone. The bank verifies the deposit information and signature to complete the transaction.
