Prof. James J. White is the Robert A. Sullivan professor of law at the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor and was associate dean of the law school from 1978-81. He has also been a visiting professor at Columbia Law School, Cornell Law School, University of South Carolina School of Law, Tel-Aviv University Law School, University of Toledo College of Law and Wayne State University Law School, among others. Previously, Prof. White practiced with Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles and was a member of both the U.S. Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard. He is admitted to the Michigan Bar and is a member of the American Law Institute, fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, consultant to the Beijing, China, Bureau of Legislative Affairs, and a former member of the drafting committees to revise UCC Articles 1, 2, 2A and 5. He is also a member of the Drafting Committee on Uniform Real Property Electronic Recordation Act, Electronic Discovery and the Committee on the Implementation of International Conventions and Treaties. A frequent author and lecturer, Prof. White is the recipient of several awards. He received his B.A. magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1956 from Amherst College and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1962, where he was a member of its law review and of the Order of the Coif.
