Former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Joins Exact Sciences' Board.

Kathleen Sebelius, who served as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services under President Barack Obama, joins the board of early stage cancer detection company Exact Sciences.

Sebelius, who is CEO of Sebelius Resources LLC, a strategic consulting firm that advises private companies, nonprofit organizations and financial investors, served as secretary from 2009 through 2014, where she worked to pass and implement the Affordable Care Act. She served as governor of Kansas from 2003 to 2009 after serving two terms as Kansas insurance commissioner and four terms in the Kansas legislature.

"Detecting cancer at earlier stages improves outcomes and the quality of care delivered to millioos of Americans. By finding disease, or the precursors of disease, early, we can avoid costly, acute-care situations that take a tremendous toll on patients, families and our economy," Sebelius said in a release about her appointment.
