FOREWORD
The American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law is pleased to
publish the fourth edition of Mergers and Acquisitions: Understanding
the Antitrust Issues, a comprehensive review of United States substantive
law relating to mergers and similar transactions. Since the publication of
the first edition, the federal agencies and state attorneys general have
continued to focus significant resources in this area and have refined
merger analysis through settlements, litigated cases, and speeches.
As with previous editions, this fourth edition serves as a fundamental
reference to all sources relevant to merger analysis. It has been
completely updated to capture the most important developments in this
area. No other book or treatise provides the comprehensive and up-to-
date analysis available in Mergers and Acquisitions: Understanding the
Antitrust Issues.
The Section is indebted to the many attorneys and economists who
contributed to a work of this scale and scope. I want to extend special
thanks to co-editors Ronan P. Harty and Leon B. Greenfield, who
carefully coordinated the work of all contributors in preparing this fourth
edition.
