FOREWORD
The Section of Antitrust Law is pleased to publish The Insurance
Antitrust Handbook, Third Edition. The Handbook was prepared by the
Section's Insurance and Financial Services Committee and is designed to
update the original Handbook, first published in 1995, with a Second
Edition following ten years later. The Handbook is intended to serve as an
introduction and general guide to the application of the federal antitrust
laws to common activities in the insurance industry, and this Third Edition
reflects the changes that have occurred in the antitrust laws over the last
decade. We hope that this Third E dition of the Handbook, like the First
and Second Editions, will be especially helpful to those advising insurance
clients.
The Section of Antitrust Law is particularly grateful to Third Edition
editor Brent Austin, and his team of contributing authors, who dedicated
many hours to the preparation of The Insurance Antitrust Handbook, Third
Edition, under the leadership of Henry McFarland and Eric Stock, Chairs
of the Insurance and Financial Services Committee of the Section of
Antitrust Law.
