FOREWORD
The Section of Antitrust Law of the American Bar Association is
pleased to present to the antitrust and health care communities the second
edition of the Health Care Mergers and Acquisitions Handbook. This
handbook provides guidance regarding how courts and the U.S. antitrust
agencies analyze and review mergers in the health care industry.
This handbook addresses the issues that antitrust practitioners and
their clients face in planning, executing, and litigating transactions in the
health care field. Specifically, this handbook details antitrust agency
policy and case law with respect to hospital, physician practice, and
health plan transactions.
The Section of Antitrust Law is grateful to the lead editor of this
publication, Michael H. Knight, and his co-editor Michael Gleason, who
applied their substantial experience regarding health care transactions to
the publication and who likewise devoted extensive time and effort to the
handbook’s preparation. We believe this handbook provides a practical
and valuable resource to antitrust and health care practitioners and their
clients.
