FOREWORD
The Section of Antitrust Law is pleased to present this first edition of
the Agriculture and Food Handbook. Competition in the complex
markets related to the production and distribution of food and
government involvement in those markets raises unique and significant
antitrust policy and enforcement issues of global importance. The
Agriculture and Food Handbook provides a comprehensive review of the
regulatory, antitrust, and consumer protection issues affecting food and
agricultural industries.
The Section is indebted to the many practitioners who contributed to
the Handbook and to the Section’s Agriculture and Food Committee for
the substantial time and effort devoted to this project. We are especially
grateful to Ryan Tisch and James Pizzirusso, Co-chairs of the
Agriculture and Food Committee, and August Horvath and Vandy
Howell, past Chairs, for their commitment to seeing the book through to
its completion. We also want to thank the principal editors, Daniel Ferrel
McInnis and Ian Conner, as well as Dina Older Aguilar, George Gasper,
Leslie Locke, John Snyder, and Kim Walker, who coordinated drafting.
Finally, we recognize the substantial contribution of Anne Layne-Farrar,
Kristin Anderson, Stephen Stack, and Kay Lynn Brumbaugh of the
Books & Treatises Committee, who oversaw preparation of the
Handbook for publication.
