Editor’s Note
It is with great sadness t hat I must report that W. Michael
Hoffman, founder and longti me director of the Center for
Business Ethics, passed away last December a fter a brief ill-
ness. Mike was a pioneer in the field of business ethics, a nd in
addition to his work at the Center, he also joined with other schol-
ars to establish the So ciety for Business Ethics, Business Ethics
Quarterly , and the Ethics Of ficer Association. His career-long dedi-
cation to business ethics, innovati ve teaching, prolific scholar ship,
and the many fr iendships he nurtured wit h colleagues both in the
United States and across the world wil l ensure that generations
of scholars and practitioners wi ll carr y on his life’s work toward a
more ethical business world. His insig ht, encouragement, support,
and comradeship wil l especially be m issed at Business and Society
Review. Rest in peace, Mike.
