Editor’s Note

It is with great sadness that I must report that W. Michael

Hoffman, founder and longtime director of the Center for

Business Ethics, passed away last December after a brief ill-

ness. Mike was a pioneer in the field of business ethics, and in

addition to his work at the Center, he also joined with other schol-

ars to establish the Society for Business Ethics, Business Ethics

Quarterly, and the Ethics Of ficer Association. His career-long dedi-

cation to business ethics, innovative teaching, prolific scholarship,

and the many friendships he nurtured with colleagues both in the

United States and across the world will ensure that generations

of scholars and practitioners will carry on his life’s work toward a

more ethical business world. His insight, encouragement, support,

and comradeship will especially be missed at Business and Society

Review. Rest in peace, Mike.
