Editorial March 2018
Dear Colleagues,
We want to thank the many contributing authors, editorial team, the advisory and
editorial boards, reviewers, and the team at SAGE for another strong year for the
Review of Public Personnel Administration (ROPPA). Information on the ranking of
ROPPA and its impact factor can be found on the journal’s website at http://journals.

As we assume editorial responsibilities, we are very grateful to Dr. R. Paul Battaglio
Jr. for his invaluable contributions to ROPPA. Paul has been an integral part of the
journal for over 10 years, including 3 years as Managing Editor and the last 5 years as
the Editor-in-Chief. Under Paul’s guidance, ROPPA has grown in quality and promi-
nence, and is read across the world for top quality research on public service human
resource management (HRM). We are humbled by the opportunity to continue his
legacy and maintain the role of ROPPA as a highly ranked public administration jour-
nal that advances theory and practice in public service HRM.
Our editorial philosophy aligns with that of the previous editorial team—to publish
the best research on public service HRM that builds our knowledge base and advances
the body of evidence on HRM as a core management function in public and nonprofit
organizations. We are committed to the theoretical tradition that human capital is cen-
tral to the performance of public service organizations and therefore encourage
research that demonstrates the importance and contribution of HRM. We welcome
rigorous research inclusive of various methodologies, challenging and boundary-
pushing theoretical work, and studies from diverse public service contexts, including
public, nonprofit, and even hybrid or network settings.
Moving forward, with your assistance, we will work to build on the broad,
international audience of ROPPA with excellent public HRM research; when
appropriate, please cite ROPPA in your work and use social media to connect
scholars and practitioners to this important research. We will actively promote
ROPPA online, and we encourage you to reach out to us with ideas to capitalize on
our social media presence. Communicating about ROPPA in multiple channels can
contribute to our impact factor and raise the visibility of our work on public ser-
vice HRM. Our new Twitter feed for ROPPA is @ReviewofPPA. Make sure to
check ROPPA OnlineFirst articles at http://rop.sagepub.com/content/early/recent
to access recent scholarship.
Again, many people contribute to maintaining the high quality of ROPPA and
deserve thanks. We would like to thank the Advisory Board and Editorial Board for
