Welcome to 2016! Our first issue of the year demonstrates the depth and reach of the IADC and its members. We begin with remarks from former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Deborah Poritz about the importance, of and need for, judicial independence. These remarks were delivered at the Northeast Regional Meeting, one of the many Regional Meetings the IADC holds throughout the year. Two articles providing a global perspective on expert witness retention and disclosure and proposed class action reform in Canada follow. The article on Canadian class action reform demonstrates the impact our members have in their home jurisdictions: co-author and IADC Board Member Gord McKee is deeply involved in the Ontario Law Review Commission proceedings about which he writes.
