Partnership aims for greater
philanthropic role in SDGs
A new partnership launched by the United Na-
tions Development Program, the Foundation Center
and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors seeks to give
the philanthropic sector a greater role in implement-
ing and achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development
Goals. The SDG Philanthropy Platform will work to
connect funders with development programs, ensure
that they are included in the development of policy
agendas and facilitate partnerships among founda-
tions, governments and businesses.
At the national level, the Platform has begun work
in Kenya, Colombia, Indonesia and Ghana, with
plans to expand to additional countries in the coming
year. In Kenya specically, the Platform contributed
to establishing the Kenya Philanthropy Forum, which
is a vehicle for collective engagement of Kenyan phi-
lanthropy in advancing national development plans.
Central to the effort is SDGfunders.org, a web-
site designed to facilitate funder engagement in
the global development process and cross-sector
collaboration. Powered by the Foundation Center,
the site offers interactive maps and dashboards
tracking key funding data on individual Millen-
nium Development Goals, SDGs, countries and
population groups, the Foundation Center said.
The website also lists the top funders and nonprot
recipients working on specic SDGs; provides access
to research and will host an online community that
will serve as a hub for discussions and knowledge
sharing worldwide, the Foundation Center said.

that are set up to handle the task in a cost-effective
and secure environment, said Bill Sayre of Merkle
RMG, a “response management” rm that handles
donation processing derived from direct mail fund-
raising campaigns.
“Our data show that about 70 percent of nonprots
have concerns about in-house processing of dona-
tions,” Sayre told Nonprot Business Advisor. “Out-
sourcing the job to a rm that specializes in it takes
care of those worries, at minimal cost in the end.”
