Honesty. "This is behavior, not just words," says Steve Frohman, instructor and developer of the Society's Center for Leadership classes. True leaders "walk the walk" in addition to "talking the talk."

Vision. "Exemplary leaders have clear vision for the future and share it with others," explains Frohman. Warren G. Bennis, one of the foremost authorities on leadership, has said "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality."

Inspiring. Motivating others to follow a vision can be one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. Great leaders not only inspire, but enable others to act. They lead by encouraging others "to do," rather than telling them what not to do.

Competent. In order to have a vision of the future and obtain consistent results, you must be technically competent in your chosen field.

The Ohio Society of CPAs has developed the Leadership Roundtable series to provide convenient opportunities for local leadership development. Led by Center for Leadership graduates, the local Leadership Roundtables use materials developed by Applied Synergystics International, Inc. (ASI), which specializes in helping organizations develop and strengthen their leaders.

"Member leadership is the lifeblood of the Society," says Chair of the Society's Executive Board Jeff Tucker. "Giving our members the opportunity to advance their leadership skills, both in their professional lives and with the Society, is something we take very seriously. It is never too early to begin developing and nurturing the individuals who will lead us in the future."
