“Having your cake and eating it too, fantasy
or reality?” (Schmalensee 2012, 56 as
cited by Fiorino 2018, 26). Daniel
Fiorino (2018) seeks to make the case for a positive
relationship between economic growth and the
environment, for having the cake and eating it too.
The author begins by presenting the current global
issues as two “colliding worlds,” economic growth
facing environmental limitations (Fiorino 2018, 25).
In this book, the concept of “green growth” is explored
and defined. Aspects of economic, governance,
and equity are examined within “green growth
and topics for future research are identified. The
final chapters focus on the U.S. realm. Specifically,
Chapter7 concentrates on ecological performance and
capacity for green growth, and the last chapter is an
examination of prospects of green growth.
Energy and environmental policies were not a major
public concern in the American political realm until
Ana M. Dimand is a doctoral candidate
in the Department of Public Policy and
Administration at Florida International
University, Miami, Florida. Her dissertation
explores the intersection of public
procurement, environmental policy, and
intergovernment collaboration. She
has also conducted research related to
sustainability, local government innovation,
and organizational behavior. She serves as
Media Coordinator for the American Society
for Public Administration’s Section on
Procurement and Contract Management.
