About the Editors/Authors
Robert B. McKinstry Jr. is the Maurice K. Goddard Professor of Forestry
and Environmental Resources Conservation at Pennsylvania State Univer-
sity. He focuses his research and outreach on state and local programs to ad-
dress international environmental issues, including biodiversity conserva-
tion, climate change, and sustainable development. Prior to his appointment
to the Goddard Chair, McKinstry was the Co-Partner-in-Chargeof the Envi-
ronmental Practice Group of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, L.L.P.,in
the firm’s Philadelphia office, and is currently Of Counsel to that firm. Be-
fore beginning private practice, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. James L.
Latchum, then-Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Del-
aware. McKinstry focuses his private practice of law exclusively in the areas
of environmental law and litigation.
Coreen Ripp is currently working as an Environmental Analysis and Re-
view Specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and
Consumer Protection in the Bureau of Land and Water Resources. She re-
ceived her master’s of science degree in 2005 from the School of Forest Re-
sources at the Pennsylvania State University with an emphasis on Watershed
Stewardship. Prior to her graduate work, Ripp worked for the WisconsinDe-
partment of Natural Resources as a Watershedand Partnership Coordinator.
Emily Lisy teaches biology,environmental science, marine biology, and hu-
man physiology at Westhill High School in Stamford, Connecticut. During
her short tenure, she has received grants to incorporate innovative science
education strategies into her classroom. Lisy is a graduate of Penn State Uni-
versity where she received her B.S. and M.S. in wildlife and fisheries science
in 2001 and 2003, respectively.For her master ’sresearch, she studied the ef-
fect of residential development design on bird diversity in State College,
Pennsylvania. Her thesis work developed a model that planners and devel-
opers could use to incorporate best management practices to promote bird
diversity in residential developments. While at Penn State, she was a
Maurice K. Goddard Fellow and helped organize three Goddard Forums on
Developing Sustainable Communities, Global Warming, and Biodiversity
(upon which this book is based).
