Philanthropy Southwest Nonprot
Organizations Institute
Philanthropy Southwest, in partnership with the
University of Texas School of Law, will host the 37th
Annual Nonprot Organizations Institute and the
Nonprot Organizations Fundamentals Workshop
Jan. 22–24, 2020, in Austin, Texas.
According to organizers, the Nonprot Organi-
zations Institute will feature nationally recognized
experts from private foundations, public charities,
law, nance and government discussing the latest tax,
legislative and governance issues affecting nonprot
organizations. The institute offers in-depth discussion
on the issues most relevant to nonprots, with two
days of presentations, targeted tracks and opportu-
nities to attend small-group “master classes” for a
deeper dive on key topics.
A day before that event, the Nonprot Organiza-
tions Fundamentals Workshop will provide an over-
view for new attendees and seasoned practitioners in
the eld. The workshop provides focused attention on
core issues for both private foundations and charita-
ble organizations, as well as multiple opportunities to
walk through key forms and ask questions of experts
and colleagues in a small-group format.

$245, while fees for the institute range up to $695.

University of San Diego’s Nonprot
Governance Symposium
The University of San Diego’s School of Lead-
ership and Sciences will host its annual Nonprot
Governance Symposium Jan. 23–24, 2020, in San
Diego.
According to organizers, the purpose of the annual
Nonprot Governance Symposium is to highlight
current best practices, lessons learned from the eld,
and trends in effective nonprot and philanthropic
board leadership, as well as board recruitment and
retention. The event is premised on the belief that
governing well is essential for strong nonprots work-
ing efciently and effectively to address critical needs
in our communities.
The workshops and seminars use a combination
of case studies and experiential and interactive learn-
ing approaches for participants to be exposed to best
practices, hear lessons learned and gain valuable tools
of the trade in good governance.
Featured speakers will include:
• Christy Wilson, president and CEO of the Ran-
cho Santa Fe Foundation;
• Anne McEnany, president and CEO of the In-
ternational Community Foundation;
• Mark Stuart, president and CEO of the San
Diego Foundation; and
• Beth Sirull, president and CEO of the Jewish
Community Foundation of San Diego.

2020 ANA D.C. Nonprot
Conference
The Association for National Advertisers will hold
the 2020 D.C. Nonprot Conference Feb. 19–21,
2020, in Washington, D.C.
According to organizers, this event—previously
put on by the Data & Marketing Association—brings
together hundreds of fundraising and marketing pro-
fessionals each year to exchange innovative marketing
and fundraising ideas, generate insightful solutions
and think creatively to help make the relationship
with their donors even stronger.
Attendees will be treated to case studies from
their colleagues that will give a realistic view of the
issues, challenges and successes they face every day.
Featured speakers will include Nancy Frates, CEO
and the creator of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,
and Gerald Johnson, chief diversity and inclusion
ofcer and senior vice president of marketing at the
American Heart Association.
