Nonprot Organizations Institute
and Literacy Workshop
Philanthropy Southwest, in partnership with the
University of Texas School of Law, will host the 35th
Annual Nonprot Organizations Institute and Lit-
eracy Workshop Jan. 17–19, 2018, in Austin, Texas.
According to organizers, the Nonprot Organiza-
tions Literacy Workshop will focus on core issues for
both private foundations and charitable organiza-
tions—governance, investment and nancial state-
ments. Additionally, this year’s Audit Workshops
provide multiple small-group opportunities to walk
through an IRS audit and ask questions of experts
and colleagues.
Meanwhile, the 35th Annual Nonprot Organi-
zations Institute will feature nationally recognized
experts from private foundations, public charities,
law, nance and government to discuss the latest tax,
legislative and governance issues affecting nonprot
organizations.

CASE conference for senior
annual giving professionals
The Council for Advancement and Support of
Education will hold its Institute for Senior Annual
Giving Professionals Jan. 17–19, 2018, in Denver.
According to organizers, this fast-paced conference
will cover topics as diverse as the eld of annual giv-
ing. Sessions led by seasoned professionals will focus
on high-level concepts and offer recommendations for
immediate actions. Collaborative sessions will con-
centrate on integrating new technologies, trends and
cutting-edge ideas and will also review best practices
in phone, mail and email solicitations.
This conference will examine the development
researcher’s role from multiple perspectives, focusing
not only on the skills they bring to the fundraising
process, but also the importance of the internal rela-
tionships that make certain those skills are used and
valued, the organization said.

University of San Diego’s Nonprot
Governance Symposium
The University of San Diego’s School of Leader-
ship and Education Sciences will host its 14th Annual
Nonprot Governance Symposium Jan. 25–27, 2018,
in San Diego.
According to organizers, this conference highlights
current best practices, lessons learned from the eld
and trends in effective nonprot and philanthropic
board leadership, as well as board recruitment and
retention. The premise is that governing well is essen-
tial for strong nonprots working efciently and ef-
fectively to address critical needs in our communities.
This year, the conference theme is “People, Place
and Performance: The Triple Bottom Line for Non-
prot Governance,” which will be the focus of ple-
naries, seminars and workshops organized around
three modes of governance: duciary, strategic and
generative.
The workshops and seminars will use a combina-
tion of case studies and experiential and interactive
learning approaches for participants to be exposed to
best practices, hear lessons learned and gain valuable
tools of the trade in good governance, organizers said.
