Committee Description:
Fund Development & Awareness
Purpose
The committee helps the board carry out its due diligence function related to assuring scal
health through fund development and increasing community awareness about organization ser-
vices, populations served and expertise. It partners with staff to institutionalize the philanthropic
process within the board and its individual members, assuring a donor-centered organization.
Composition
The Fund Development & Awareness Committee shall be composed of:
• at least one member of the executive committee
• other board directors
• the development director
Friends of the Board may participate on the committee.
Whenever possible, the committee will be chaired by the vice president. New board directors are
encouraged to join the committee. The number of members is not limited.
Tasks
The Fund Development & Awareness Committee is expected to:
• Help establish annual fund development goals as part of the annual budget process
• Help generate fundraising goals to be included in the three-year organizational strategic
plan
• Assist in implementation of all fund development ideas, including sustainable foundation
support and donor development
• Communicate to the board what fund development support is needed from board directors
• Create educational tools to train board directors on basic fund development and donor devel-
opment strategies
• Support work of the development team at Women’s Health to organize fund development
events and activities, including encouraging board participation
• Encourage board support in reaching goals for fund development events such as ticket sales,
sponsorships, big ticket donations and live auction items
• Evaluate the success of yearly events and activities to determine goals for the following year
• Ensure that Women’s Health fundraising practices comply with our adopted policies on a
yearly basis
• Help the board articulate the case for philanthropic support
• Help the board actively increase community awareness of the broad scope of our services,
populations we serve and our state-of-the-art expertise
Meetings
The Fund Development & Awareness Committee shall generally meet once a month for approxi-
mately one hour. More frequent meetings called as required.
