Merit E. Janow was named dean of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in 2013. Since 1994, she has served as a professor of professional practice, international economic law and international affairs at Columbia.

Janow has published numerous articles and several books on international trade and economic matters. She frequently speaks before business, policy and academic audiences around the world. In 2003 she was the only North American and the first female to serve as a member of the World Trade Organization's appellate body, which is the court of final appeal for adjudicating trade disputes between the member nations.
