Newsweek has recognized Columbia-based Colonial Life as one of America's best companies for customer service in its 2019 list.

The publication compiled the inaugural list to recognize personal service in a changing retail landscape, global editor in chief Nancy Cooper wrote on Newsweek's website. Newsweek worked with research firm Statista to collect and analyze data in 141 retail categories.

Colonial Life was named the No. 1 customer service provider in disability insurance.

"We are proud that being one of Newsweek's America's best companies for customer service recognizes our commitment to our customers," Tim Arnold, president and CEO of Colonial Life, said in a news release. "We are proud of the way our employees stand behind our promise to protect America's workers during a difficult time. This award recognizes the great work by our 1,300 employees, each of whom is responsible for delivering customer service."
