§55.3HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT
CR 55 was adopted in May 1967, effective on July 1, 1967; it was amended in minor respects in 1977, 1978, 1981, and 1989. The rule was preceded by Rule of Pleading Practice and Procedure (RPPP) 55, and before that by RCW 4.56.160 (repealed 1984) and .170 (repealed 1984). These statutes were based in turn upon Laws of 1854, §225, p. 171. Thus, the instrument of a default judgment has been a part of Washington jurisprudence since early territorial days.
