§37.5 PURPOSE AND PROCEDURE

CR 37 vests broad discretion in the trial court to sanction, remedy, and prevent discovery violations. Blair v. Ta-Seattle E. No. 176, 171 Wn.2d 342, 348,254P.3d797 (2011). "The purposes of sanctions orders are to deter, to punish, to compensate and to educate." Wash. State Physicians Ins. Exch. & Ass'n v. Fisons Corp., 122 Wn.2d 299, 356, 858P.2d1054 (1993).
