§ 15.1 • DEFINITION

Conversion is an intentional tort prohibiting the "intentional exercise of dominion or control" over another's property "which so seriously interferes with the right of another to control" that property "that the actor may justly be required to pay the full value of the chattel."1 The Colorado Court of Appeals has defined conversion as: "any distinct, unauthorized act of dominion or ownership exercised by one person over personal property belonging to another."2
