Business School Learning Goals:
The Legal and Regulatory Context
of Organizations in a Global Economy

AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Busi-
ness) is the premier accrediting body for business schools. Of the thousands
of business schools worldwide, fewer than five percent have met the high
standards for AACSB accreditation.1The latest version of AACSB’s accred-
itation standards was adopted in 2013 and updated in 2016.2One section
of the standards relates to “Learning and Teaching.” This section begins by
noting the importance of learning goals: “High-quality business schools have
processes for determining for each degree program learning goals that are
relevant and appropriate . . . . ”3Under “Definitions” AACSB provides greater
detail:
Learning goals state the educational expectations for each degree program.
They specify the intellectual and behavioral competencies a program is in-
tended to instill. In defining these goals, the faculty members clarify how they
intend for graduates to be competent and effective as a result of completing the
program.4
