Analysis of workplace giving campaigns offers
tips on employee engagement
The latest analysis of employee giving programs
conducted by workplace giving and engagement
platform, YourCause nds that employers that offer
a mix of opportunities for their workers to both give
and volunteer with causes they care about end up
getting more of both.
That’s just one of several key ndings explored
in the company’s recent report, Industry Review:
Employee Engagement and Corporate Social Respon-
sibility. Although the data are useful for charities in
terms of improving their own employee engagement
programs, they can also use the insights to better un-
derstand the motivations and strategies of the various
businesses they look to for support.
Nonprot Business Advisor recently spoke with
Rachel Hutchisson, VP of Corporate Citizenship and
Philanthropy at Blackbaud, YourCause’s corporate
parent, about the ndings and what employers—big
or small, for-prot or nonprot—can do to ensure
their programs are effective at engaging their workers

Q: Per the report, 75% of companies that offer both
giving and volunteering opportunities for their employ-
ees have twice the employee engagement of companies
only offering one or the other. What explains this?
A: We have observed, through our four decades
of working with nonprot organizations, that vol-
unteers are committed donors. The theory behind
this is that volunteerism, by denition, takes time
